Substation 'Person in Residence' Exhibition

January 2020

In December 2019, our group had the opportunity to exhibit our  'Person in Residence' projects in a small ground floor room at White Lion House; the same building our projects were created in. We only had two weeks to come together as a team and coordinate and design the exhibition, before setting up the first week in January.

The interior space was the shape of an irregular hexagon, with an area of around 2.5m². At the start of this project, we understood there were many elements to consider and not a lot of space to display, but all could be achieved if we each undertook a certain responsibility. We had an initial team meeting confirming all of our roles; I was responsible for displaying models and coordinating the colours and text fonts for the banners and graphics.

Setting up the exhibition required a lot of planning and preparation prior to set up day. Banners had to be printed, plinths had t be cut to size and painted, models had to be secured in boxes, string lights had to be soldered and tools had to be packed. Everything was brought down to the site in a van and we got to work to install everything.

I am very proud that as a team, we were able to design and install an exhibition in only three weeks, with a budget of less than £100. The overall exhibition was striking and was a good representation of our project and our skills as designers.
